Now for some news on some of our favorite hedge fund guys. Though they are based in San Francisco, you don’t see them very often in our social pages. Hey — when you’re busy buying and selling everything in the world, you have little time for cocktail party picture posing.

First, an item on Jerome Simon, manager and sole member of Lonestar Capital Management LLC. His portfolio of firms has been estimated by the London Mirror at approximately $1 billion. Lonestar, according to one report “specializes in special situations, distressed investing, energy, and the exploitation of leveraged capital structures and mispriced securities.” Anyhow, he has just created quite a bit of buzz in Manchester, England. The 47 year old is trying to buy their football team, Manchester City!

Next, Peter Thiel, of Clarium Capital Management and Barry Rosenstein of Jana Partners — they were both written about in the recent “New York” magazine cover story “Behind The Hedge.” They were the only guys on the West Coast to be included in a ranking of the nation’s top 30 hedge fundsters.

Thiel currently manages between $1.9 and $2.1 billion in his fund out of his Presidio office, and is also a venture capitalist with investments in Friendster, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Barry Rosenstein (married to philanthropist Lizanne Rosenstein) is King Honcho Daddy Man of San Francisco hedge funds, with approximately $5.8 billion under management. He was partially paralyzed in a 1992 windsurfing accident, and credits his recovery to yoga, which he practices 2 to 3 hours a day.
