The Chronicle has reported that San Francisco’s Peter Som has been named the new creative director of Bill Blass (remember when there used to be designers? Now they’re all “creative director.” Whatever.) Expect the newly revitalized label to make a big splash here, with both Som and Blass being so well liked by the ladies who dress.

In the same piece, the Chronicle’s Sylvia Rubin noted that Peter Dundas has left Emanuel Ungaro (the split was actually announced last month), but no replacement designer has been named. Apparently the upcoming Spring 2008 collection, which will be presented in Paris next month, was designed by the company’s design staff. A tough position for them to be in. CEO Mounir Moufarrige will need to find a replacement. And fast.
