SF Shopping Tips

{ Published on   27 October 2007  }

There’s a cool new website that specializes in giving shopping tips to travelers. It’s called Indagare.com and you should check it out. For San Francisco visitors, there are some recommendations from Heather Hartle of “7×7,” Roth and Emily Martin of the Hedge Gallery, and Alexis Swanson Traina. From Indagare, here are Alexis Traina’s recommendations (husband Trevor is on the Board of Advisors for the site, by the way):

FAVORITE FLORIST: “Birch is very special, otherworldly and enchanting. I just did a dinner with them and our table had a sea of large camellias made from newspapers. “ 3263 A Sacramento St.; 415-922-4724; www.birchsf.com.

FAVORITE RESTAURANT: “I am excited to try Tim Stannard’s new restaurant, Spruce (3640 Sacramento St.), which is opening soon. He also owns the delightful Village Pub in Woodside. I always love the venerable BIX (56 Gold St.; 415-433-6300; www.bixrestaurant.com), a throwback to 1940s supper clubs, with delicious American fare, waiters decked out in white and a piano player entertaining until midnight.”

FAVORITE BOUTIQUES: “The Candy Store (1507 Vallejo St.; 415-921-8000; www.thecandystoresf.com) has the most darling old-fashioned candy ever! The wonderful Bell’Occhio (10 Brady St.; 415-864-4048; www.bellocchio.com) is a teeny shop straight out of Paris that’s been around for years. It sells the most gorgeous keepsakes, treasures and stocking stuffers. For children, go to Mudpie (1694 Union St.; 415-771-9262), which has darling, old-fashioned clothes, accessories, basinets and linens. For the home, I adore Sue Fisher King (3067 Sacramento St.; 888-811-7276; www.suefisherking.com) and Nest (2300 Fillmore St.; 415-292-6199; www.nestsf.com). And for vintage finds, there’s La Rosa (1711 Haight St.; 914-668-3744).”
