City College of San Francisco Presents a Live Design Experience on the Embarcadero

Archistructerior: A Live Design Experience will be presented by the City College of San Francisco’s Department of Architecture on Friday, April 25 from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Justin Herman Plaza on San Francisco’s Embarcadero.

The free event is in celebration of the Department’s 60 years of quality education in Architecture, Construction Management and Interior Design, as well as build community support for the Department and raise funds to benefit its students.

The outdoor event is a live “iron chef ” type of design competition where teams of City College and local high school students join together with Bay Area professionals to build full-scale constructions that represent the cultural, social, and ethnic diversity of specific San Francisco neighborhoods.

Each construction team will use: 1) a pre-designed “kit of parts” by the Architecture Department; and 2) a neighborhood “kit of parts” that is assembled by the team.

Judges include industry professionals like Dan Gregory, former senior editor for Sunset magazine; Sophie Azouaou, owner of Sophisticate Interiors; and Lisa Quinn, CBS-5 host and designer for “Evening Magazine’s Ikea $500 Challenge.”

Winning teams will have their structures displayed in Justin Herman Plaza.

Archistructerior is supported by AIA San Francisco, Architecture Foundation of San Francisco, Boston Properties, Daphne D. Light Designs, Duskus Design, Marco Fine Furniture, McCarthy Building Companies, Pollack Architecture, Plant Construction, R.N.Field Construction, G4 Builders, Peng & Sons Builders, Tom Elliot Fisch Architecture and Interior Design, Turner Construction, Wes Wong Design, West Coast Green, VBN Architects, and the Faculty of the CCSF Architecture Department.
