I had such a pleasant surprise at the Annie Leibowitz opening party at the Legion of Honor recently when I met the woman in the middle, above. Katiti Kironde, shown with her daughter Mireille Schwartz and granddaughter Charlotte, was the first black woman to appear on the cover of a major woman’s magazine!

This issue of Glamour broke sales records when it was published in 1961. Isn’t it amazing how she looks just as beautiful now as then?
