SF20 Preview

27 August 2008

Today we’re excited to give you a preview of a few fabulous items that will be exhibited and sold at SF20, the San Francisco 20th Century Art and Design Show & Sale, which will premiere September 10th through the 14th at the Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason Center.

The Kay Fisker wine decanter, Danish, from 1927 (exhibited by Decodence)

The exhibition and sale will feature 50 of the most prominent 20th century decorative and fine arts dealers from across the United States and Europe, including from London, New York, Paris, Moscow, Budapest, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, and the Bay Area.

The objects, which represent all design movements of the past century, will be presented in dramatic room settings, creating the effect of a decorator show house tribute to classic 20th century design.

SFMOMA has chosen to make the opening gala a major annual fund-raising event. It will be arranged by well-known event designer Stanlee Gatti and catered by Paula LeDuc.

Allison Speer is organizing the local public relations and corporate liaisons for the event. Preview party invitations have been tiered to allow a large number of guests to attend the opening night gala on Wednesday, September 10. Helen and Charles Schwab will serve as honorary co-chairs of the event.

A keynote lecture by 1st Dibs founder and president Michael Bruno (shown above) entitled “Do the planet a favor, buy antiques and vintage design” will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. Booth lectures at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday will be offered by Martine Newby of Didier Antiques, London, UK and Peter Fetterman of Peter Fetterman Gallery, Santa Monica. SF20 organizers Dolphin Promotions, Inc., in association with venerable 20th century collector and dealer Jacques Caussin, also produce Modernism exhibitions in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and Palm Springs. This is the first year that San Francisco has hosted the exhibit.
