In the history of fashion, with its constant changes, there are a few people who stand out in the way they have elevated the act of dressing to an art form, people who take such delight in clothing and put so much thought into the way they dress, that they transcend fashion and become living works of art.

People such as the 19th century dandy, Count Robert de Montequiou and his friend, the Countess Greffulhe; actresses like Sarah Bernhardt and Marlene Dietrich; 20th century tastemakers like Millicent Rogers and Countess Mona Bismarck. Today one thinks of Dita von Teese, Patrick MacDonald, and Anna Piaggi, though there are others.

Our “Look of the Day” today puts the spotlight on a local example, a man named Jeffrey Ying.  When we saw this photo of Jeffrey, we immediately had to show it to you.

He is wearing a suit by John Pearse of England, with a Brioni shirt in pale celadon. The trench coat is Viktor & Rolf Monsieur. His tie is of a vintage silk. The Western hat is a vintage Resistol beaver hat. The glasses are French tortoise-shell from the 1950s. His grey and pink handkerchief is made of Irish linen. And do note the monocle on a cord, which is not a prop — he actually uses it.

We are great fans of the sophistication and creativity that he puts into his wardrobe, and look forward to seeing more of this fascinating young man!
