New Judge Dredd Flick in the Works
For San Francisco film lovers, we are pleased to present this story from “The Moving Picture.”

Good news for Judge Dredd fans. It looks like the Sylvester Stallone flick hasn’t killed the character’s big screen presence. 2000 AD Online has announced a new Dredd movie has been greenlit with an eye to start production in 2009.
2000 AD is a British science-fiction magazine and Judge Dredd is the mag’s longest running character, having first appeared in 1977.
Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot. He was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra.
2000 AD is developing the project with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such movies as Sunshine, 28 Weeks Later, Love Actually, The Last King of Scotland and Notes on a Scandal.
The Stallone flick opened in June 1995 and grossed $34 million on a budget of $90 million. Diane Lane, Armand Assante, Max von Sydow, Jürgen Prochnow and Rob Schneider co-starred and it was directed by Danny Cannon, who went on to helm I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and episodes of CSI.
