Rosemary’s Baby Remake Not Happening
For San Francisco film lovers, we are pleased to present this story from “The Moving Picture.”
Back in March it was announced that remake-machine Platinum Dunes were in talks to update Rosemary’s Baby, but now it seems the project is no longer happening – good news for fans of Roman Polanski’s classic horror film.
The company’s Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who are also in the process of getting a Nightmare on Elm Street remake off the ground, revealed the news in an interview with Collider.
“We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be do-able. We couldn’t’ come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was so we’re now not going to be doing that film.”
The original opened in 1968 and starred Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes. It centered on a young couple who move into a new apartment, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbors and occurrences. When the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant, paranoia over the safety of her unborn child begins controlling her life.
Fuller and Form also told Collider that the long talked about remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, which Martin Campbell is attached to direct, is still happening. But much like the now defunct Rosemary’s Baby, if they can’t bring something new to the table they won’t be making it.
