Beating Cancer in San Francisco

22 April 2009

One couple who has done a phenomenal job at fundraising for cancer prevention and treatment is Hilary Newsom Callan and her husband Geoff.

We are happy to report that photographer Thomas John Gibbons has fully recovered from his bout with cancer.

Known for his work photographing celebrities (Elizabeth Taylor has been a friend for over a decade), political leaders and socially influential figures in San Francisco and New York, Thomas had to slow down his operations in the past year to focus on his health (although he has never stopped working.) Now, thanks to the careful treatment he received at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, he is in good health and happily accepting assignments.

He received the positive news from his doctor today, after testing had been reviewed by a full board of cancer specialists. “I’m ecstatic,” he tells us. “April 22, 2009 will be my new birthday! I feel reborn.”

Sadly, as we all know, not everyone who gets cancer is able to beat it. That’s why it’s so important that cancer charities receive as much support as can be given. One couple who has done a phenomenal job at fundraising for cancer prevention and treatment is Hilary Newsom Callan and her husband Geoff.

Hilary, the President of PlumpJack Group, founded the annual LINK (Learning, Information, Networking, Knowledge) Golf Classic ten years ago, which has raised approximately $1.6 million dollars to benefit the Northern California Cancer Society.

This year’s event takes place April 27, 2009 and includes a golf tournament, celebratory dinner and live and silent auctions.

Members of the public may donate $150 for a ticket to the dinner and auctions, or $400 for a single round of golf, dinner and auctions ticket, gift bag, lunch, drinks and snacks provided on the course.

Notable attendees at this year’s event will include Mayor Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom; “Sex in the City” actor Jason Lewis; Gordon Getty; Steven Revertria, Vice President of Marketing for the Giants; Giles Martstan, Vice President Marketing and Sales for Tiffany & Company and Masa Tanaka and Vartan Shahijanian, Chief Executive Officer/President and Vice President of Union Bank of California, The Private Bank.

To purchase a ticket, go to https://crow.he.net/~plump/rsvp.html or call the the PlumpJack office at 415.346.7119.
