About the Wender Weis Foundation for Children

The Wender Weis Foundation for Children (WWFC), founded in 1994 by then 23-year-old Stanford University and Northwestern (Kellogg) MBA graduate Amy Wender, is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization committed to assisting at-risk children to develop self-esteem, confidence and a sense of camaraderie. Through local sports and arts programs, children learn self-importance, trust and teamwork, and gain a sense of accomplishment. WWFC partners with organizations that address the emotional and psychological needs of children in crisis as well as their physical needs for shelter and care. WWFC raises funds and awareness for these groups through its annual Holiday Heroes fundraising event.

About the Beneficiaries

Junior Giants Baseball Program
Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, is a free, non-competitive and innovative baseball program for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 years old. This organization was created as an alternative for Bay Area at-risk kids to drugs, gangs, and crime. The program now serves 15,000 children in 80 leagues across California and into Nevada and Oregon. Through a community-based activity such as baseball, Junior Giants focus on the four bases of development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork.

49ers Academy
Founded in 1996, the 49ers Academy was created to serve 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from East Palo Alto to achieve educational excellence. The 49ers Academy maximizes the potential of every student by emphasizing self-discipline, respect, and individualized academic attention to help them master core subjects and prepare for high school.

Raphael House
Founded in 1977 by Mrs. Ella Rigney, Rafael House was the first homeless shelter for families in Northern California. Through a “homeowners” approach to social service, Raphael House works with parents and families to lay the foundations for a lifetime of healthy development, achievement and stability. This program provides a residential shelter program, and an after-care program, providing a full service family support center where families can thrive.

Holy Family Day Home
Holy Family Day Home has a long history of providing affordable, high quality, early childhood education and family support services in a stable and nurturing environment, thereby giving the children of working families a sound foundation for lifelong development and hope for a successful future.

San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center
The San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, the promotion of healthy families and the mental health of children. With direct crisis and intervention programs designed to reduce parental stress, enhance parenting skills and provide comprehensive services for families in need, the SF Child Abuse Prevention Center provides open-ended support and help families break the cycle of violence.
