Event producer and designer, Robert Fountain, once again partnered with Manus and Salzman in the creation of the evening’s theme, “The Game of Love.” Guests entered through a maze of hedges with trivial pursuit questions leading the way to the entrance of the home and party.

Helen Salzman, the beloved mother of Salzman and mother-in-law of Manus, recently conquered her third bout of cancer with the incredible care and help of the Stanford Cancer Center. Helen, who attended this year’s gala was – and continues to be – the inspiration for the annual Valentine’s Day Ball.

Hostess Jillian Manus dressed as “Barbie” wearing the exact gown, accessories, and hair style as a vintage “Lizette” Barbie doll from her personal collection.

All of the evening’s proceeds, which totaled $300,000 in ticket sales and donations, directly benefits the Stanford Cancer Center. True to “The Game of Love” theme, each room in the house represented a humorous and nostalgic take on beloved childhood games such as Operation, Clue, Dungeons and Dragons, Truth or Dare, Candy Land and Twister – just to name a few. All decor, food, beverages, and entertainment were intertwined with the “fun and games” them.

The party included an FAO Schwartz themed tent with electric trains, including life size Gumbee dolls and stuffed animals, children’s motorized cars, a Barbie dessert station with cookie accessories, a “floor step” piano made famous by Tom Hanks in the movie “BIG”, and Bill Hopkins providing the music with the band dressed up like Raggedy and Ann and Andy Dolls! A Twister room had a Chubby Checker impersonator with poodle skirt dancers, all in a 50′s diner serving fries, shakes, malts, burgers, and hot dogs
