Susan Feldman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Alison Pincus at One Kings Lane’s Celebration of “My Father’s Daughter”
Gwyneth Paltrow and One Kings Lane recently celebrated the launch of Paltrow’s first cookbook, “My Father’s Daughter,” at an intimate dinner prepared by Paltrow herself using recipes from her book.
Dinner was held at Palazzo Chupi
Held at the breathtaking New York residence of a Bay Area financier, the dinner for 60 of Paltrow’s family, closest friends and supporters, included Cameron Diaz, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Stipe, Jay-Z, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, fitness guru Tracy Anderson, L. A. Reid, Christy Turlington and husband Ed Burns, Martha Stewart, celebrated chef Mario Batali, and (from San Francisco), Alison Pincus, Allison Speer, Bill Brady, and Alexis Traina.
Gwyneth Paltrow personally tended to every detail of the party, from the Arugula Salad with Smoked Mozzarella Slow-Roasted Tomato Crostini starter dish to the pink and white peonies lining the linen table runner.
“It was intimidating because I had the whole food world there, and I was like ‘What the hell am I doing? What did I get myself into?’ But it was fun,” she said. She was especially nervous to be cooking for certain food stars who were at the dinner, like April Bloomfield, Gabrielle Hamilton, Ruth Reichl and Mario Batali.
The invitation was a handwritten note bearing Gwyneth’s monogram. And each place setting included a calligraphic name card, simple yet elegant tableware by Canvas and a folded linen napkin tucked under the bowls.

Guests were served Swanson Vineyards wine, a favorite of Martha Stewart, who was overhead saying that she and daughter Alexis Stewart drink it all the time (one of Swanson’s most popular wines, a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, is actually named “Alexis”, after Alexis Swanson Traina.)

When asked if she is becoming a “mini Martha”, Gwyneth laughed that “I am not trying to be the next Martha Stewart.” She said “My Father’s Daughter” is just her way of showing other busy working moms her way of cooking for her family. “I am not trying to do a media empire.”
Replicas of the evening’s tableware, featured decor, tabletop and home accessories went on sale at One Kings Lane on Thursday (and will continue until Sunday, April 17, 2011 !)
