The Spinsters of San Francisco recently held its 82nd Annual Ball in the Swig Suite penthouse of The Fairmont San Francisco.

The annual fête marks the official turnover of the Spinsters of San Francisco calendar year and a transition of outgoing leadership to a newly-elected board. Outgoing Spinsters president Liz Brusca toasted incoming Spinsters president Ashley Hayes at the stroke of midnight.

Attendees included 2010-2011 Spinsters president, Liz Brusca, the 2010-2011 Board of Directors and the incoming 2011-2012 Spinsters president, Ashley Hayes. Liz wore a stunning black asymmetrical Maz Azria gown, frosted from head to toe in bright, sparkling jewels, while Ashley donned a Betsey Johnson confection adorned with black satin and pink ruffles.

Co-Chair, Hadar Gordon, wore a candy-colored architectural gown, dripping with big, bold jewels and silver bejeweled stilettos. Outgoing Charity Director Kelly Chrisman wore a classic black-and-white gown accessorized by a one-of-a-kind, vintage tourmaline ring from H. Stern that her father purchased for her mother during a 1970s Peruvian political uprising. Amanda Coffee, PR maven by day and party-hopper by night, wore a light, lush, green chiffon strapless gown perfect for a summer night on the terrace of the penthouse. Annual Ball co-Chair, Libby Leffler, donned a slinky, cherry red Monique Lhuillier gown.

The Annual Ball featured spirits by SKYY Vodka, including couture cocktails, dragon fruit cosmopolitans and a whiskey Manhattan bar serving the “1919 California”, named for the Spinsters of San Francisco’s founding location in the ballroom of 1919 California Street, in November 1929. Exclusive wine sponsor VGS Chateau Potelle poured VGS Explorer The Illegitimate, a red blend, and VGS Explorer Sauvignon Blanc.  Magners hard cider provided refreshing original Irish cider and new pear Irish cider-flavored beverages for guests.

Guests enjoyed sweet treats and savory bites along with their delicious drinks. The Fairmont San Francisco created a memorable mushroom risotto bar in the penthouse’s elaborate and lavish billiard room. Exclusive “hydration” sponsor, HINT Water, provided refreshing fruit-flavored beverages. VIP festivities commenced at seven o’clock, with passed hors d’oeuvres including spring rolls, lobster-and-black truffle lollipops and mini-grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. Pre-party guests mingled in the Swig Suite library and enjoyed a sunset champagne toast on the picturesque penthouse terrace.

Upon arrival guests were greeted by a Popchips photo activation booth where they “popped in” to snap and share photos online. Attendees enjoyed fresh nigiri and maki sushi and sliders, as well as sweet treats like decadent cupcakes, cheesecake bites and frosted Spinsters of San Francisco cookies. After a night of dancing to the beats of DJ Lamont, hungry guests enjoyed satisfying late-night bites from Izzy’s.

About the Spinsters of San Francisco: Spinsters of San Francisco was founded on November 6, 1929. Patricia Tobin (Mrs. Sheldon Cooper) hosted the first meeting in the ballroom of her grandparents’ home, the de Young house, at 1919 California Street. The Bachelors of San Francisco had already been formed, and the young women wanted to develop a sister organization. The first president was Harriet Brownell, who presided over the original membership of 35 young women.

Spinsters of San Francisco have evolved into a community oriented social and philanthropic organization of up to 175 members. Non-profit by charter, the group is comprised of college educated, unmarried women who sponsor and rise funds each year for a designated local charity. In addition, the group hosts after work and evening cocktail parties, seasonal dances and three Charity Events for members and their guests. Traditionally, the members have also volunteered their time with local arts organizations, medical facilities and other philanthropic groups such as the Guardsmen.
