Pat Brown Film Premiere in Mill Valley

9 October 2011

Pat Brown

Pat Brown with Martin Luther King after the Watts Riots

With the world undergoing radical changes on many fronts, and with a growing protest movement taking place in the United States, the second decade of the 21st century is starting to echo that most turbulent decade of the last: the 1960s.

Pat Brown, Governor of the State of California throughout most of the ’60s, and father of the state’s current Governor, was a central figure in the political landscape of the day.  How striking, then, that an important new film about his life and legacy is now making its premiere. Is there somethin’ blowin in the wind?

“California State of Mind: The Legacy of Pat Brown,” by award-winning director Sascha Rice, will have its northern California premier at the Mill Valley Film Festival on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.

President John F. Kennedy with Pat Brown

Featuring interviews with Governor Jerry Brown, former Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gray Davis & Pete Wilson; Tom Brokaw, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Senator Dianne Feinstein, the Hon. Willie Brown Jr., Warren Christopher, historian Kevin Starr, Reagan’s political strategist Stu Spencer, and former State Treasurer and Pat Brown’s daughter Kathleen Brown, the film gives an inside look into political power and a family dynasty called by some “the West Coast Kennedys.”

Say Gov. Jerry Brown of his father, “Seeing the world through the lens of Pat Brown is very valuable. We might learn something about how to deal with the kind of world that we now confront.”

In these startling new times, we need all the insight we can get. Definitely a film to watch.
