Tom Cruise, co-stars and director of “MI-4″ hit the red carpet in Dubai for the world premiere in the country where much of the film was shot.
Tom Cruise has begun promoting the worldwide rolling release of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. He was on the red carpet Wednesday night in Dubai and happy to talk about his pal Simon Pegg and their running gag on set of mimicking the voice of Michael Caine. Video posted below.
Pegg made a short appearance in MI-3 as tech whiz Benji Dunn who assisted Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt make his way safely through the streets of Shanghai. He’s back in a larger role and works with the new edition to the MI franchise, Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner.
Renner joins the MI-4 gang in progress in the third sequel to the original film. He joined Tom Cruise in performing some of the eye-popping stunts that have been teased in video clips. Hanging upside down might be cool with Cruise but Renner was ready to throw up, he told the Daily Mail.
“Once I hung, 30 seconds of near vomiting almost happened…Tom was laughing, he’s hanging upside down; he’s all red faced and he’s like, ‘Look at this view!’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? I’m gonna vomit on you.”
One account of the premiere in Russia on Thursday claimed that despite the allure of catching sight of Tom Cruise it was the BMW concept car that captured most of the attention. Reported to cost upwards of $200,000, Cruise arrived at the premier in the vehicle.
As previously reported on Huliq.com the automaker has a plan. “The film allows us a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only BMW’s vision for future vehicles but to highlight some of the newest and most popular cars in our current fleet,” said Trudy Hardy, Manager, Marketing Communications and Consumer Events at BMW of North America.
British media reports that the car is driven by Tom’s character, Ethan Hunt, in many of the key action sequences. BMW has been screening the film to customers.
For director Brad Bird, the film will be a test of his ability to engage adults in a big budget action feature. Known as the man behind Pixar films, “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille”, he takes a complete U turn with MI-4.
He was ready for it according to him. Interviewed by the New York Times, Bird says it wasn’t as much about getting out from under his success in animated features as it was mixing it up for a change.
“I don’t want to make the same kind of movie over and over,” he said The film opens in the United States on December 21.
