A cat was recovering on Wednesday after being struck in the head with an arrow.
Crawford County Humane Society agent Angie Chandler said that she found the cat, which officials have named Arrow Eve, just after midnight on Christmas Eve in a drawer on top of a cabinet, 10TV’s Jessa Goddard reported.
“We just sedated her, and we knew that we would be able to extract the arrow, and we basically just extracted it with slow tension, and it came out very easily,” veterinarian Matthew Glass said.
Glass said that the wooden arrow narrowly missed her esophagus and trachea and did minor damage to the cat’s soft tissue.
Chandler said that while Arrow will recover, she has seen a disturbing trend in the area of North Market and Erie streets in Galion.
“My first report was in late July of a cat in a parking lot of a local restaurant, just a few blocks away from where I found this cat,” Chandler said.
Chandler said that Galion Police have no leads, so she is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Veterinarians at Horizon Animal Hospital, who have donated most of their services, said they would continue to care for Arrow for the next few days and then she would be available for adoption in Crawford County.
“We are asking anyone that would be willing to help pay for the recovery costs to please let us know,” Chandler said.
Anyone wishing to donate can visit the agency’s website at www.crawfordhumane.com or send donations to Crawford County Humane Society at 3590 Ohio 98, Bucyrus, OH, 44820. Call 419-562-9149 for more information.
