When we recently saw our glamorous pal Melodie Johnson, in head-to-toe Chanel at a birthday party for Joel Goodrich, she was excited to tell us all about the fun weekend trip she had just taken to Las Vegas.  But she was there not for the usual Vegas fun – it was to visit a special eight-day, invitation-only installation that Chanel presented at the Wynn, named “Numeros Prive.”  Designed to dazzle and delight, it was a unique fashion moment that Chanel fans like Johnson (who loved everything she saw) will never forget.

For the occasion, Chanel chartered a fleet of private planes from New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco to shuttle in socialites, celebrities and clients. It started on a Friday night with a dinner party which included San Francisco customers like Vanessa Getty, Sloan Barnett, Marissa Mayer, Katie Traina, Alison Pincus, Victoire Reynal, and Deborah Lee Minor, who dined among celebrities and fashionistas Jessica Alba, Diane Kruger, Lily Collins, Rachel Zoe, China Chow, Gia Coppola, Dree Hemingway and Poppy Delevigne, among others.

Alison Pincus, sharing photos and highlights of the event with her customers at onekingslane.com, said that “The whole experience was like being whisked away into Karl Lagerfeld’s fantasy world.” (You can see Alison’s article, featuring a video from the exhibit, at onekingslane.com.)

The event featured Chanel’s iconic codes re-imagined to inspire and excite visitors in ten magical spaces where materials, figures, symbols, colors and coveted objects – all created by Chanel – were transformed and reinterpreted.

Upon arriving at the installation, guests entered through a symbolic curtain of white beads, a reference to the pearls adored by Mademoiselle Chanel.  Melodie Johnson said this was her favorite piece at the exhibit, and we have to agree it was a stunning effect!

After walking through the promenade, guests experience the first space: a spacious children’s bedroom filled with dolls designed by Karl Lagerfeld.

This room introduced guests to the creative and ingenious world of Karl Lagerfeld by incorporating projects, works and sketches.

In 1955, Gabrielle Chanel pioneered the shoulder bag with her creation of her legendary 2.55 handbag. To learn about the exceptional skills involved in making this bag, visitors stepped through a futuristic air-lock chamber and found themselves inside a 2.55 handbag.

With walls lined in sensuous leather, digital displays and a wall of videos showing each step of the creative process – while hearing sound effects from the workshop – the room offers a sensory, mechanical and aesthetic take on one of Chanel’s most emblematic creations.

After leaving the 2.55 space, visitors entered the Haute Couture room, a recreation of Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment at 31 Rue Cambon complete with her famous Coromandel screens and tall mirrors.

Visitors had the rare opportunity to absorb Chanel’s Haute Couture experience by viewing both Haute Couture images and dresses in person.

Graphic, the next room, evoked today’s colourful and loud era through a game of lights and sounds. Music and noises mixed with luminous projections of snowflakes and numbers while giant hourglasses counting time adorned the room. The floor, covered with a drawing of a watch’s face, was designed to remind visitors of the newest Chanel icon: the J12 watch.

Surrounded by camellia trees, guests were reminded of Jean Cocteau’s classic “Beauty and the Beast” as they re-entered the promenade area. The garden space highlighted Chanel’s fine jewelry collection.

Moving along, visitors had the opportunity to take a playful look at the most famous Chanel icons – the lion, the clover leaf, the double Cs, the number five and the perfume bottle – through a forest of emblems denoting the Chanel mystique. Finally, the pop art room was covered with silk-screened images of the celebrated Chanel No. 5 bottle.
