Coinciding with her appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue’s annual fashion show benefiting the San Francisco Ballet on May 18, 2012, Donna Karan is making another major statement in San Francisco this month by partnering with Carrots boutique to sell her beautiful and rare collection of pieces under the Urban Zen label.

A northern California exclusive (Urban Zen has previously only been available in New York, Sag Harbor and West Holywood), the collection was created by Donna Karan as a philanthropic endeavor, with ten percent of net sales benefitting Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation, which focuses on healthcare, children, and cultural preservation around the world.

But buying an Urban Zen piece is hardly charity – the clothing, accessories and housewares under the label are absolutely gorgeous, and even seem truer to Donna Karan’s personal design sensibility than perhaps the more commercial labels that bear her name.

The collection features heathered jersey maxidresses, sleek leather pants, hand-carved leather and brass cuffs, and housewares crafted by Haitian artisans.
