The female orgasm

It’s not just on the tennis courts that women are louder than men, they are also far noisier in the bedroom, a new survey has revealed.

Now that Maria Sharapova, who is known as one of the noisiest women in the sport, has been knocked out of the tournament, the courts at Wimbledon will be

much quieter. Her screams during the game sometimes exceeded 100 decibels, while other female players like Serena Williams are also far noisier while playing than their male counterparts.

In the poll of 1,171 people (566 women and 605 men), 94 percent women admitted to being louder than their partners during lovemaking. And 70 percent of the men questioned agreed that their female lovers were louder.

“Sex is largely like the tennis at Wimbledon, the women are making far more noise!” the Daily Mail quoted one respondent as saying.

Sex expert Tracey Cox said that there was no scientific reason behind why women are louder than men. “It tends to be an individual thing. Some people scream the house down at a concert, others watch without making a sound. It doesn’t mean they’re not enjoying it as much!” she said.

She further said that another reason could be that women’s orgasms are more intense or because they are more used to faking it – like actor Meg Ryan in the famous scene from the film When Harry Met Sally.

“One theory might be that since women fake it more often than men do, perhaps they feel obliged to provide ‘evidence’ that they’re enjoying themselves?” Cox said.

“Either way, we need to steer clear from thinking that the noisier the person is in bed, the more they’re enjoying it. Being noisy doesn’t make you a good lover, though I heartily support any sort of feedback in bed and noise is one way of communicating,” she added.

The survey was carried out by online sex retailer Lovehoney to coincide with the launch of their new sex toy, the Sqweel 2.
