Google has good things going for its Nexus gadget lines, which mostly led to stock outs since their debut, but glitches in the Android system appears to be hampering the products’ total commercial breakout. The Nexus 4 is a hit but Google seems to eternally grapple on meeting heavy demands for the product. And the problems do not disappear even after consumers successfully purchased any of the Nexus devices. One glaring issue is the Android deployment in the Nexus 7 tablet, which is fraught with too many issues because the mobile platform “started as an immature mobile platform designed to handle smartphones,” James Kendrick of ZDNet said in a report. Mr Kendrick echoed experts’ sentiments that Android remains an OS not fully-optimised for tablet use, which Google claims has been dealt with in the latest JellyBean version.
Straying outside Yellowstone National Park turned out to be a fatal mistake for one animal as it was announced Sunday that a famous wolf was shot and killed after it wandered outside park boundaries. The wolf, named simply 832F, was a favorite among scientists and tourists for her high visibility as a member of the Lamar Canyon pack. The New York Times reported “the most famous wolf in the world” was an alpha female and was killed legally by a rancher after venturing out of the park’s territory. Described as a “rock star” by tourists, the wolf was recently implanted with a $2,000 GPS tracking system under her fur that showed the Lamar Canyon wolf pack rarely left Yellowstone and, when it did, returned after a brief time. More than 1 million visitors were estimated to have seen 832F since she was born in 2006. John Hayes, operator of photography and wildlife blog Oops John , wrote that there was something special about watching the wolf pack, led by its famous leader, in its natural habitat. “Alpha Female 832F, despite her age, or maybe because of it, is a consummate professional at what she does – which is to protect and guide the Lamar Canyon Pack from one generation to the next in a land wild and unforgiving,” Hayes wrote.
Ten days to be exact from today and the planet Earth will witness its final, chilling end on December 21, or at least that’s what Mayan doomsday cultists say. The world’s getting fidgety. France’s Bugarach Mountain, said to be a refuge from the impending end-of-day scenario, is slowly gearing up to seal off its environment from the outside world. In lieu of that, focus has now been turned towards Serbia’s Mount Rtanj which according to cultists could be a second sanctuary from the onslaught. The pyramid-shaped Mount Rtanj is now hogging its own share of the limelight in the Mayan doomsday countdown after owners of hotels surrounding the mountain, located in the east of the Balkan country, reported receiving an unusual influx of guest bookings during the past few days.
So much for Los Angeles Lakers games being available to all DirecTV subscribers on their most basic service tier. This fall, as the Lakers added superstars Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to their roster, Time Warner Cable was busy negotiating carriage deals for its new networks — Time Warner SportsNet and Time Warner Deportes — with providers like Charter Communications, Verizon FiOS… and DirecTV. There were two big sticking points: Time Warner Cable wanted almost $4 per subscriber more, and it wanted those networks available on the most basic tier of service. DirecTV signed a deal with Time Warner Cable to carry the channel on Nov
Shares of the iShares MSCI Philippines Investable Market Index Fund (NYSE: EPHE ), one of 2012′s top-performing emerging markets ETFs, are off half a percent on Monday and the catalyst behind the loss might come as a surprise to some investors. Some might say with the ETF up almost 7.1 percent in the past month, the fund is now near-term overbought and some traders are taking profits today. Another reason could be the impact of Typhoon Bopha, which has some 1,400 Filipinos dead or missing . Or it could be a disappointing September foreign direct investment number that saw the nation’s FDI slide 60 percent to $55 million from $138 million a year earlier. All would be plausible reasons for EPHE’s Monday woes, but in the case of the FDI, it should be noted that through September the Philippines has attracted almost $1.1 billion in FDI this year , up 40 percent from the same period in 2011. Believe it or not, a big reason why the lone Philippines ETF could be trading lower today, and the emphasis should be on “could be,” is Manny Pacquiao’s loss to Mexico Juan Manuel Marquez in a Saturday boxing match.

A new study draws links between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, and oxygen deprivation early on in life. Earlier studies with animal models have hinted at a connection between lack of oxygen in the womb or during birth and ADHD, but a new study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics takes one of the broadest looks at the connection in humans, using the vast trove of electronic medical records in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California health system. A team of researchers led by KPSC epidemiologist Darios Getahun started out by combing through medical records for more than 300,000 children between 5 and 11 years old who were born and raised in the KPSC system between 1995 and 2010. Getahun and his team identified 13,613 cases of children with ADHD by looking for individuals with both a clinical diagnosis of the condition and who had received at least 2 prescriptions for ADHD medication. In general, children with ADHD were more likely to be male, and either white or African-American, than children without an ADHD diagnosis. The scientists matched each ADHD case to five controls, for a total of nearly 82,000 study subjects.
