As a fan of both grilled cheese sandwiches and Martha Stewart, the SFLuxe editor was delighted to see this post on Martha’s blog today on how her favorite grilled cheese sandwich is prepared.
It’s like no grilled cheese sandwich I ever made, but it looks delish! Here’s Martha:
“I just love a sandwich grilled, with gruyere cheese and thinly sliced tomatoes on a Balthazar bread called Pain de Siegle, made with rye flour. It definitely falls into the category of comfort food. But, when it comes to …

I often read Auren Hoffman’s amusing blog — he has an interesting life, and a wide range of intellectual interests. But I’m not sure about the company he keeps. From his recent item entitled “Wine is a Big Scam,” one gets the sense that his regular dinner companions are a bit, shall we say, boorish?

Remember how June Cleaver would do housework in high heels, pearls, and a simple cotton apron over her 1950s full-skirt dress while hubby read the paper and tended to business? Well Ward would never have left the kitchen if June wore an apron like these.
Style and entertaining expert Elizabeth Scokin designed the Haute Hostess line of aprons for the woman who wants to “glam it up” a bit when hosting a party. Indeed, she named the collection of aprons “Glam It Up.” But don’t think her customers …

Last week I attended the re-opening of Enrico’s on Broadway. The much beloved North Beach landmark has been all spiffed up by the glamorous new owner, Christina Deeb, who is photographed here with original owner, Enrico Banducci.
Also at Enrico’s — Joe Alioto Veronese and Assemblyman Mark Leno. One of these two men will be elected to the State Senate in 2008. (Sorry Miss Migden, but I’m afraid your time is over.)
Location: Enrico’s, 504 Broadway

C Magazine asked 6 of California’s leading women in the world of food and entertaining for their picks of the best places to eat. For San Francisco they selected Allison Speer (whom they photographed with her dog, Cedar) — and as we trust her taste more than most, SFluxe will set out to try everything she listed. Here are some of her favorite places (pick up C Magazine, with Christina Ricci on the cover, for more. And by the way, Christina looks fabulous!)

Since going on a kosher macrobiotic non-dairy vegan protein diet, SFluxe’s dreams have been of cakes, cookies, Rocky Road ice cream, and Fatt Dog hot dogs (shuddup, Dr. Freud.) But in all those dreams, there was never a cake like this!
This company can custom make any sort of cake you can imagine. Our favorite? The Louis Vuitton purse cake. One taste and you’ll know it ain’t no knockoff.

Last week about 150 people convened at Marissa Mayer’s beautiful Four Seasons penthouse to support the launch of her new partnership with I Dream of Cake.
“I went to Le Cordon Bleu in Sidney, and I majored just in patisserie, because I wasn’t really interested in chicken guts,” said Shinmin Li (left, shown here with Marissa Mayer.)
An executive at Google, Marissa met Shinmin Li, the founder of I Dream of Cake, three years ago through a Craigslist ad. She was looking for someone to make a cake for a friend’s …

Boulevard has been nominated for the third consecutive year as the country’s best restaurant. Unfortunately it has yet to win the honor. This year it is up against Frontera Grill and Spiaggia in Chicago, Picholine in New York, and Magnolia Grill in Durham, North Carolina. Will it win the prize this time, or is Boulevard destined to be the Susan Lucci of restaurant glory, destined to wait a decade for what it deserves?

“Everything’s getting fancier,†said Rick McKay, a waiter at Mel’s Drive-In, and apparently that’s all it takes to make the New York Times a believer. The newspaper travel section sees Lombard as a new hip and happening spot, thanks to karaoke, saketinis, and sightings of George Lucas at Hime.
